Setting Up Thread and Matter Devices¶

Setting up a Thread and Matter network requires at least one Thread border router, which bridges the Thread mesh network to your home WiFi network. In the UK, the most common Thread border routers are the HomePod mini (99 pounds), Apple TV 4K 3rd generation (169 pounds), Nest Hub Max (190 to 220 pounds), and the Aqara Hub M3 (50 to 70 pounds). A single Thread border router can support up to 32 Thread devices within a 30-metre range, but for larger UK homes, add additional border routers to extend coverage. To set up a Matter device, scan the Matter pairing QR code or enter the 11-digit setup code in your preferred platform's app. If you use Apple HomeKit, open the Home app and tap Add Accessory. For Google Home, open the Google Home app and tap Add Device. For Alexa, use the Alexa app. The device automatically appears in all platforms that share the same Matter fabric.
