Starlink for Caravan and Motorhome UK

Take Starlink on the road with your UK caravan or motorhome. This guide covers portable setup, 12V power, temporary mounting, Roam subscription, and tips for staying connected while touring the UK and Europe.

Two Starlink models suit caravan and motorhome use. Starlink Mini (£299) is ideal for mobile UK use - compact (297x259x38mm, 1.1kg), built-in WiFi router, 25-40W power consumption, and direct 12V DC input via USB-C. Starlink Gen 3 (£449) works but is larger, heavier, and requires an inverter for 12V systems. The Mini is significantly easier to set up on a caravan. Subscription options: Roam plan (£129/month) allows UK and European use with up to 50GB priority data then unlimited standard data. The Roam plan can be paused for months when not travelling - a major cost saving compared to residential plans. Mobile - Regional plan (£129/month) covers UK and Europe. Mobile - Global plan (£259/month) covers worldwide. For UK-only use choose the regional Roam plan. The dish can be used while driving on motorways - Mini draws minimal power and retains satellite lock during movement at speeds up to 100 mph. Setup time is 1-2 minutes on arrival at a campsite.

Permanent mounting options: roof mount (drill through caravan roof - seal with Soudal Fix All Flexi for waterproofing), pole mount (attach to awning rail using a custom bracket), or temporary ground mount (use the kickstand on a picnic table or level ground). Temporary setup is recommended for most UK caravanners - simply place the Mini on a flat surface with clear sky view. 12V power installation: the Mini accepts 12V DC directly via USB-C. The official Starlink Mini vehicle power adapter (£35) plugs into a 12V accessory socket. Run from the caravan leisure battery: Mini draws 40W = 3.3A at 12V. A 100Ah leisure battery powers the Mini for 24+ hours without recharging. For Gen 3 in a motorhome: use a 300W pure sine wave inverter connected to the leisure battery. Gen 3 draws 80W = 6.7A at 12V. With a 100Ah battery: runtime = 12 hours. Solar panel on caravan roof: 100-200W panel maintains battery charge for continuous Starlink use. WiFi in caravan: the Mini includes built-in WiFi router covering the entire caravan. For larger motorhomes add a mesh node.
